Standard 1: Teaching for Learning Candidates are effective teachers who demonstrate knowledge of learners and learning and who model and promote collaborative planning, instruction in multiple literacies, and inquiry-based learning, enabling members of the learning community to become effective users and creators of ideas and information. Candidates design and implement instruction that engages students' interests and develops their ability to inquire, think critically, gain and share knowledge.
Personal Philosophy: The school library program promotes reading as a foundational skill for learning, personal growth, and enjoyment. The Mission of the Gering High School Library Media Center is to create a warm, safe and collaborative learning atmosphere that supports the district mission statement and the high school improvement goals. As the largest classroom in the school, we seek to provide equitable access to resources while promoting the integration of information literacy skills. The Library Media center strives to foster a lasting appreciation of reading and life-long desire to learn. The library will offer flexible scheduling that includes collaboration with classroom teachers.
Reflective Statement: The lessons that I created as part of my Library Concentration Program went well thanks to the amount of planning that was required. During the collaboration process with my teachers, the 21st Century Learner Standards Collaboration Planning sheet created a 21st century learning environment for our learners. Shown in the artifacts, the learners are engaged and developing their ability to inquire, think critically, gain and share knowledge. The student lesson will show how the instruction uses multiple literacies, and inquiry-based learning. The vision for our library will demonstrate an overall plan for Teaching for Learning.
